She was married to John MEIGS on Mar 7 1665/66 in Killingworth, Connecticut.(3) She was married to Samuel NORTON on Sep 6 1722 in East Guilford, Connecticut, probably. (3) He was married to Joanna BIRDSEY on Dec 28 1664 in Stratford, Connecticut.(3) The surname of this family is spelled variously, as Wilcocks, Wilcox, Wilcoxson, and similar forms. In the early history of the lineage to be described, the spelling, Wilcoxson, frequently was used. The family is believed to have been of Anglo-Saxon origin, and it is said that fifteen generations of its lineage were recorded as living in Suffolk, at Bury St. Edmund's. In the reign of King Edward III, Sir John Wilcox was entrusted with several important commands, and led the cross-bow men from Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex, against the French, at the Battle of Crecy, in 1346. John William Wilcox, of Bury Priory, was a distinguished representative of the Suffolk branch of the family, in the latter Nineteenth Century. William Wilcoxson, of Stratford, Connecticut, was born at St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, in 1601. On April 2, 1635-6, he sailed from London on the ship, "Planter," with his wife, Margaret, aged twenty-four, and their son, John, aged two, arriving at Concord, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, May 26, and the same year became a freeman of the Colony. He removed to Stratford in 1639, and was a Deputy from that town to the Connecticut Legislature, which met at Hartford, in 1647. His will, dated May 29, 1651, named his wife, Margaret; his eldest son; "the rest of my sons;" his daughters; and bequeathed forty pounds to the church at Concord. William Wilcoxson died at Stratford in 1652. His widow, Margaret, married William Hayden of Windsor, Connecticut. An agreement made by his children and heirs was dated October 22, 1668, the heirs being as follows: the widow, Margaret, "now Hayden;" Henry and Elizabeth Stiles; Daniel and Hannah Hayden; John and Sarah Meigs; and John, Joseph, Phebe, Timothy, Johanna, Samuel and "Obadias" (Obadiah) Wilcoxson. Lieutenant Abel Wright was found among the early settlers of Springfield, Massachusetts, in the Connecticut Valley, who spent a mature life of 70 years there, from 1655 to 1725, when he died at the advanced age of 94 years. Although the town had been settled in 1636, it was still in its infancy when our Abel appeared on the stage, to claim a place among his fellow men. "Jan. 2, 1655 - There is granted to Abell Wright, a home lot containing 3 acres in the land next ye Round Hill." Feb. 13, 1656 - "It is granted to Abell Wright an amount of 20 acres which had formerly come into the hand of Rowland Thames, lying in ye great plain over ye great river, called Chickuppy plain, provided he continues 5 yrs. in town." Mar. 13, 1660 - "There is granted to Thomas Bancroft, Abell Wright, John Lumbard and Richard Sikes, a parcel of land lying on the w. side of ye river to a hill about 40 rods westward." Various other grants of land, to the number of sixteen in all, from 1655 to 1695, as well as several to his sons Joseph and Abel, Jr., are on the town records also. In those primitive times the farming was on a smaller scale than we see now, and hence the few acres allotted to each settler in these grants. Abel Wright married December 1, 1659, Martha Ketcherel, daughter of Samuel Ketcherel, at Hartford, Connecticut, and had a family of thirteen children, of whom ten married. He was a citizen of some note, both in the civil and military service of the town. In 1695 he was elected to the "General Court," and in May 1696 Deacon Burt and Lt. Abel Wright were chosen to answer a petition of the people of the west side of the river asking to become a separate parish and procure a minister of their own. In 1708, July 26th, Indians came upon the town and despoiled his family, scalping his wife, who died in consequence on the 19th of October following. They also killed an infant of his son, Henry, and captured his wife, who died soon after. But this venerable ancestor lived until 1725, for his tombstone record says: "Lieut. Abel Wright died October 29th, 1725, aged 94 years." by Rev. Stephen Wright, of Glen's Falls, New York, Genealogies of Connecticut Families, Gary Boyd Roberts, Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1983. Parents: John WRIGHT and Jane RICHALL.
